How to experience Augusta during the Masters

So you finally have tickets to the most prestigious golf tournament in the world and now you have to figure out where to stay and what to do while visiting Augusta. We have a few ideas up our sleeves for you and hope this will give you an insider’s look to this charming little town.

Where to stay?

There are many places to stay in Augusta for The Masters. The key to scoring a hot spot is to get your room early.

First, as you might imagine, Augusta has all the major hotel chains including Marriott, Hilton, InterContinental Hotel Group and Starwood.

An Augusta classic since 1836, the charming, The Partridge Inn, is the most in-demand hotel during Masters Week. Recently renovated, the hotel combines luxury and contemporary with Southern charm and a classic touch. The best part is that it’s moments away from shopping, dining, attractions and of course to Augusta National with a daily complimentary shuttle.

Renting a house is another great and fun option. Grab a group of friends or family and split the cost. The Masters Housing Bureau is the ONLY housing bureau sanctioned by Augusta National and therefore is a very reliable source. Their inventory of houses can be filtered by course distance, bedrooms, bathrooms and subdivision, and the list goes on. Houses range from $500-$40,000 and the majority include a maid service.

Let’s be real, as long as you are in Augusta the first week of April, you can’t go wrong. Personally, if you have enough people to make the price work, renting a house is the way to go. You can cook, have a drink on the patio and avoid the crowds at nighttime.

What to do and where to eat?

I mentioned that the Partridge Inn in the best place to stay by far, but it’s also possibly the hottest scene outside of Augusta National during the first week of April. This inn features the award winning restaurant P.I. Bar & Grill with it’s amazing bar and a nighttime full of entertainment.

Rated a Top 10 Restaurant in Augusta, by Food Network, Southbound Smokehouse is a BBQ joint that takes food seriously. Having made their debut Summer of 2015 – this hot new restaurant is a virgin to Masters Week – and my predication – they will do it BIG. With an incredible venue housing a patio, grassed-in backyard and acoustic music stage – Masters week you are sure to find yard games, nightly shows and the tournament streaming all day. If you are not a BBQ fan – don’t worry, they have something for everyone including quesadillas, tacos and homemade southern sides. Throwing a house party? They cater – but get your order in quickly!  You do not want to miss hitting up this hot new spot!

Quieter than the other two spots and quite a bit more expensive – Manuel’s Bread Café is one of my favorite places to dine in Augusta. Located in the new community of Hammond’s Ferry, Chef Manuel uses the freshest ingredients grown right in the backyard at Blue Clay Farm. He puts a new meaning on “Farm to Table” as you will see the chef running back and forth to the garden grabbing fresh herbs to garnish your dish. The entrees are truly amazing and it would be a sin for you to leave without tasting the dessert. Incredible.

Enjoy!
